The dean of my Faculty asked me to give a first greeting and welcome lesson to the new students who are joining the center this year. It has been a great honor for me and I transcribe my speech below.
Dear dean dear dean team dear colleagues that I see are among us and above all ladies and gentlemen students: good morning everyone.
The dean has asked me to say a few words of greeting as a kind of first lesson that serves as a welcome to the new students who join our center today and I do it with great pleasure even knowing that I am surely not the right person because there are many other teachers who would do much better.
What I will do in the next few minutes is to transmit to you some of the experiences that I am accumulating more because I am old than because I am wise about university life and so that you can get into the subject I will give you some tasks. So take note from the beginning.

First of all I would like to dedicate a few words to the place where they have arrived the university.
They must be very aware that entering these classrooms is a privilege. Those of all of you who finish your degree will be part of a select group: those four out of every ten young people who have a university degree. Do not believe therefore that everyone has entered here and that all young Spaniards will have the same opportunity that you have.
And I'll tell you more: you have just received a gift from society.
Even people with less income and wealth than their families have paid taxes so that now you can sit there.
How much do you think it will cost each year of your studies? Surely many would respond by saying that what the tuition cost them. But not. On average each university course costs about euros in Spain. Make the difference with what you have paid and you will get what society gives you. Or rather not what he gives them but what he has lent them. Because it is only fair that with the passage of time you return what he has given you now. What society has done is invest in you.
And from that investment arises the obligation to return what was received. I'm going to tell you very clearly: you have no right to squander the efforts of others. Anyone who is not willing to make an effort should get up and leave now.
Secondly I would like to tell you about yourselves.
Look the life of every human being is a mystery and each life journey is different from the other. It is true that nothing is written but it is also true that we know something very important: that human beings can shape our future and that we reap what we sow.
Albert Einstein said that "there is a driving force more powerful than steam electricity and atomic energy: the will."
I'm getting older and if there's one thing I've learned throughout my life it's that when you want to achieve something with conviction and you put the will to achieve it you can achieve all the goals you set for yourself.
